LACTATE THRESHOLD TESTING

Lactate threshold is one of the most commonly, and effectively, used performance markers used by many athletes and coaches.

Whether you are a triathlete, runner, skier, cyclist, or rower, as an endurance athlete you need accurate physiological data to guide and monitor your training by. The point is to learn the highest intensity at which you race and train before hitting the wall from high levels of blood lactate. Elite athletes and coaches know the key to success is to increase sustainable power on the bike and speed while running at lactate threshold.

What is lactate threshold?

Your lactate profile is a powerful and reliable predictor of performance in aerobic exercise. The body produces a performance-limiting substance called lactate during exercise. The lactate threshold test determines the level of exercise intensity at which the body begins to produce this substance at a greater rate than it can be removed.

Why is testing important?

It’s all about knowing your limits – when to push those limits and when to pull back, so that ultimately you can break them. Lactate threshold training is the science of measuring your limits over time, then continually adjusting intensities so that you’re always training at the optimal level. Which moves your body’s threshold higher and higher over time, until you surpass previous limits – and break personal records. Knowing your lactate profile will allow you to plan your training, raise your lactate threshold and increase your work intensity.

Why BSX Insight?

  • The lactate threshold training method has been used by elite athletes, Olympians and professional coaches for more than forty years. For the first time ever, it’s now achievable through a simple, wearable device not requiring the athlete to be pricked for a sample of blood every three minutes.

  • Using LED lights to “look” into your muscle, BSXinsight analyzes your unique biosignals to identify both your lactate threshold and personalized training zones. It’s as accurate as previous blood-based measurements, and it uses the same technology that experts and clinics use – with the added benefits of being wearable, ANT+ compatible and immediately actionable. Finally, you’ll always know how your body is responding to training, from the inside out.

  • Beyond simplifying lactate training, BSXinsight.com also tracks and stores all your data for comprehensive analysis. You can customize workouts based on your personal lactate dynamics, fitness goals and future events. You can benchmark your fitness, optimize your training and track your gains over time. And you can share your data with coaches and training partners, or send it to all your devices for anytime access.

  • There’s never been a more complete picture of your training health on one simple site. And there’s never been technology that works so hard to make your training so easy.

  • FULL TEST (BIKE+RUN)
    • A lactate threshold test consists of a graded exercise protocol to simulate increased workload on the individual. This test can be done easily on a bike or treadmill and generally is 30-45 minutes in length. This test should be completed at the end of a recovery period so that the overall training fatigue is low and can be considered part of the training.
    • Full test will develop personalized  and precise heart rate training zones for cycling and running. Test results will also reveal run pacing and cycling power zones to enhance training efficiency.
